Let’s take it back to 2003 to listen to a track from Kylie’s incredible record Body Language.
I Feel For You has been one of my top 5 Kylie tracks for years now. Completely underrated. It is honestly a genius work of music. Talk about a funky bassline. I mean seriously, the musicality put into this track is absolutely flawless.
If and when I ever ‘jam’ with other Berklee students this is what I expect to happen.
A flawless funky pop tune that should have been a single.
So after a couple years of absolute crap with her record company, Annie’s second record Don’t Stop was finally released on October 19th.
Sadly, it is not getting the attention is deserves. SO… here we go guys, you ready?
I Don’t Like Your Band is an extremely pleasant dancey track off of the new record. It’s got a fantastic beat, some really awesome heavy synth lines, and lots of cool vocoder bits.
The song is all witty and clever the way Annie songs usually are, but this one is especially nice and groovy indeed.
Hopefully a single at some point. Give it a try. You will like it.
A perfect pop moment that we can only dream about.
Wear My Kiss will be the Sugababes 3rd single from the upcoming record Sweet 7 (now to be released in February of 2010 - Read post here).
This recording includes the Sugababes late band member Keisha.
Keisha is no longer in the band, so this perfect pop moment will not really be a perfect pop moment when it is released with new bandmember, Jade Ewin’s vocals.
RIP Sugababes.
*note to reader : We all miss dear old Keisha, but the Sugababes are still a band (regardless of how we feel about it).
That said - THIS SONG IS FREAKING FANTASTIC. And holy crap how fantastic does Heidi sound. Looks like bridge girl has stepped up to pre-chorus girl. And I like it!
I personally, think that this song is destroyed by it’s completely stupid and half-assed lyrics. Not to mention, the song is about having a threesome - and in the bridge Britney even suggest a foursome. In my opinion… stupid song.
However, the song is surprisingly a fantastic blend of the each and every Britney album we have heard throughout the last 10 years. It’s got some elements of Baby One More Time, Slave, Circus…
The song is INCREDIBLY Britney Spears… Typical Bubble-gum pop harmonies (second verse “Make ‘em say my name - Lovin’ the extreme”)
It’s all very Britney Spears, and only Britney Spears could make this song appealing in the slightest.
BUT…
This is not a perfect pop moment because of this song, because personally, I do not believe that this song is anywhere near a perfect pop moment.
This VIDEO is though. Britney looks incredible! Healthy - Really sexy if I say so myself. Props to her for how far she has come in the last year and a half. Really changed her life and moved back into the pop music scene as the pop star we love and cherish.
Lady Gaga is the top do it herself pop artist in the world these days. No denying it.
She started from the bottom, and worked herself to the top. She is a business woman through and through.
Her aesthetic is her vision - hence the visual aspect of everything she does. Her show is the explanatory companion for her music. Luckily for her, she is a fantastic songwriter who knows how to come up with a chart topping hook.
Some aspects of her persona irritate me; however, that makes me love her even more. Through her music and visual performance, she stands firm in her beliefs, desires, and visionary ideas. A good artist makes you think about your opinions and views both musically and lyrically. Gaga does this.
For a brief time I fell off the Gaga train. This happened probably because I am not a huge fan of blatant sexuality in music. However I should expound and say that I am not a fan of sexuality used to sell and promote an artist’s music.
Lady Gaga does not use sexuality to sell her music. She writes about sexuality in her music : Human sexuality and the effect that it has on our hopes, fears, and overall personas. As well as writing about many other things.
I respect her as a musician and especially as an icon for the pop music world. Pop music should have metaphoric lyrics, contextual, and visual meaning - As should all art. Sadly most of the time pop music is lyrically blatant and juvenile.
The video above marks a perfect pop moment because of chord structure used in this simple piano vignette. When the piano re-enters 30 seconds into the video, you will feel the emotional tension. It’s astounding and mixed the visual it is absolutely breathtaking. You will feel it pick you up, it’s inevitable.
This is what pop music feels like for somebody who is completely cursed with it’s ever present demons.
It is a nice aside to her album.
I should say that I really do not care for her piano playing when I usually hear her play. She rushes the tempo the majority of the time, and she usually plays at one terrorizing dynamic volume. (You can hear this with the chords that begin at 46 seconds.)
That said, she makes beautiful music - very Rachmaninoff inspired.
Gaga directed this video herself with Kathryn Ferguson.
